SP’s flag flew proudly at the WCED’s 2020 NSC Awards ceremony on 9 March 2021. The event took place at the Premier’s residence, limited to 100 guests because of Covid regulations, and was also streamed live. Three of our matriculants received awards for Excellent Achievement (being placed in the top 40). They were Lindiwe Trout-Naidoo, Donica Jacobs and Tharwah Joseph. Lindiwe was there in person, so it’s very likely that her position was quite high, although we did not receive details.

The other recipient was of one of two Special Ministerial Awards, selected by Minister Debbie Schafer, who had received nominations from schools. Erin O’Connor was diagnosed with a rare form of abdominal cancer when she was in Grade 8, which necessitated a lengthy stay in hospital undergoing treatment. After complications set in, a kidney had to be removed. She missed about half a year of schooling, returning in Gr 9. Erin was one of our top 20 matriculants, achieving distinctions in 3 subjects. She was also one of the invited guests. Well done to our students of excellence!
