One of the highlights of the school calendar is the Cape Argus Quiz, in which schools from all over the Cape Peninsula compete to win handsome prizes for the school and for the individual team members. From just a handful of schools when the competition started over a decade ago, to over 100 in the last edition in 2019 (the competition was not held in 2020 or 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic), the Quiz has become a showcase for SP’s talented students over the years. Schools are allowed to enter a maximum of three 4-person teams, which compete in a number of round robin rounds, followed by knockout rounds, all at various schools, and eventually the semi-finals and finals, which are gala events held at outside venues, such as the Baxter Theatre. .

Under the guidance and mentorship of Mrs Dana Marinus, assisted by various other teachers, SP teams have become serial winners over the years, with the highlight being in 2011, when our teams were placed first, second and third in the final. We are the current holders. A new development recently has been that the provincial winners participate in a national tournament. SP placed third in 2019. All in all, SP has won seven times and were runners up on three occasions.
